Good metrics can usefully inform organizations, systems, employees, and related research – and bad metrics can be ineffective or even damaging. This webinar will cover issues and ideas around measure development, psychometric reliability, and validation, so that you can appreciate the fundamental properties for developing, improving, and evaluating metrics relevant to your environment. The webinar will be of interest to anyone involved in metrics: students, academics, industry professionals, and funding agencies whose projects rely on good metrics. No experience is needed, except an appreciation for statistics (descriptive statistics, correlations).
About the Presenter
Fred Oswald, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Psychology at Rice University. An organizational psychologist, he addresses issues pertaining to personnel selection, college admission, military selection and classification, and school-to-work transition. Oswald publishes statistical and methodological research in the areas of big data, meta-analysis, measure development, and psychometrics. He is an Associate Editor of Journal of Management, Psychological Methods, Advances in Methods and Practice in Psychological Science, and Journal of Research in Personality. Oswald also serves on 10 journal editorial boards and on the Board of Human Systems Integration, part of the National Academy of Sciences. Oswald is president and a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP; American Psychological Association Division 14), and a Fellow of Evaluation, Measurement, & Statistics (APA Divsion 5), APA, and the Association for Psychological Science. Fred received his MA and PhD in industrial-organizational psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1999.
About the Moderator
Rebecca A. Grier, PhD, is a human factors scientist at Ford Motor Company researching human interaction with highly automated vehicles. In addition, she is secretary/treasurer of the HFES Perception and Performance Technical Group and chair of the Society of Automotive Engineers Taskforce on Identifying Automated Driving Systems – Dedicated Vehicles (ADS-DV) User Issues for Persons with Disabilities. She is a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group for the International Standards Organization Technical Committee 159 (Ergonomics). Rebecca received her MA and PhD in human factors/ experimental psychology from the University of Cincinnati and a BS With Honors in psychology from Loyola University, Chicago.
